PRT's should stand between 13 and 15 inches high at the shoulder. They were originally a terrier bred for hunting foxes and designed to be able to go to ground.

They are normally a confident, energetic, and happy dog with a delightfully bold character. They make a good companion and will often settle for a nap if there is nothing interesting going on but will be ready and waiting when you are ready to go!

It is important to ensure you have a secure garden before you think about bringing a PRT into your life. Remember they were bred to go to ground and therefore can be handy diggers but some can also jump quite high too so a 6ft fence is recommended.

Your PRT will need to be exercised for at least an hour each day but can easily manage a lot more and can most of the time out walk the average person. The fitter the dog the more exercise they require. Originally they would have been out all day keeping up with the huntsman on horseback. Hattie for example has been to the top of Ben Nevis and would have gone up again given the chance!

The PRT is a health breed which is acknowledged by the Kennel Club with the breed being placed in Category 1 of the Breed Watch Scheme meaning there are no current or emerging concerns regarding the health of the breed.

The average lifespan of a PRT is over 12 years of age with more making it to the age of 17+ in recent years.
